If you've heard my "Passion, Pride and Innovation" keynote - you recall the end and the story of my great passion that keeps my drive alive. I have three wonderful daughters that are such a joy to be with. (I say that now, as none are teenagers. Three teenage girls - SCARES ME!)
If you haven't taken a day aside in a while to rekindly your passion. Make sure you schedule it. If we don't schedule it, email, phone, meetings (boring ones of course) and anything that can get in the way - will.
I like trying to understand pre-historic earth. The mere understanding of the amount of time this rock has been floating around fascinates me. So for fathers day, my girls took me to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and we had a great time learning, laughing and playing.
Here we are below. Hope all you Dad's had as great of day as I did.
Now in my line of biz I'm thankful to work and keep quite busy. Events lead to other events and I've been asked to share the stage with people from Tom Selleck to the Pointer Sisters, Charlie Daniels, Diamond Rio and even KC & the Sunshine band to mention just a few. It's not a big deal to me as people are people. I don't generally get photos with them or even ask for autographs, we just hang out back stage and be people. (Although here are me and the Pointer Sisters on the right)
With that said, I recently showed up at an event and saw the name Judson Laipply on the bill. Meant nothing to me....until someone said something. "Oh he's the Evolution of Dance Guy" and I froze.
"You mean that guy! The greatest phenom in the online video and viral marketing world." I was literally speechless and so excited to meet him.
If you have never heard of this or seen him - he has the all time most viewed online video - over 90 million views on You Tube alone. He posted this video to show a group of kids and it had over 20 million views in 30 days. He became a phenom! Judson has appeared on everything from the Today Show to CNN, been written about in countless major publications.
Spend 6 minutes and enjoy the following. Watch it with your kids, your parents, grandparents - anyone, as you'll all get something out of it.
Having known this video for some time and the following it has created I was totally starstruck and fortunate to have met such an incredible guy, Yup - I got the autograph. Yup, I took the photo. So here is me and the internet "Evolution of Dance" king doing the best Brady Bunch pose that we could (well mainly me - he has the move down).
I need your feedback on this one!? What would you have said.......Here's what happened.
The title line is what I heard as I asked the rental car agent "where's a garbage can?" upon my return to the airport yesterday in Myrtle Beach, SC. In my hand I merely had a coffee cup and a handful of paper maps, other than that the car was spotless.
"Here, I'll take it" he said as he took it from my hands. "We have people that clean the cars. If you do, they will be out of a job." He took it and threw in back into the car.
Frankly, I was a little surprised by that and wasn't quick enough to respond, but as I walked away I had two options. I could have said "Thank you for sharing. I don't want your car cleaner to lose their job." OR, I could have said "You know what, why don't I simply drop it in a trash can and you can take a $1.00 of my car rental fee."
What would you have done? What do you think I said.....Post a quick response and let me know your thoughts!
WOW, is all I can say. Put 3000 of the best 6th graders in Central Ohio into the Schottenstein Center and WOW! This was the first I had been asked to be the Motivational Entertainer /Keynote for a group of middle school students and...WOW! They were amazing! We combined the message of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) with the Science of Magic to create a truly unique presentation that left them guessing while encouraging them to ‘figure out the magic' just as we are challenged to figure out science - as their must be answer. Special thank you's to all the Central Ohio 6th graders, COSI, the Ohio State Athletic Department, John Page - Page Tech Ltd and of course Nancy and Dave from Ohio State. Look forward to seeing you next year.
